---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wasteland 3 is a role-playing video game developed by inXile Entertainment and published by Deep Silver. It is a sequel to Wasteland 2 (2014)

Wasteland 3 is a squad-based role-playing video game featuring turn-based combat. Played from an isometric perspective, the game features a synchronous and asynchronous multiplayer. In the game, players need to make various choices, which would impact the game's world and the story. The game introduces a vehicle that the players can use to traverse the world and store supplies. The main campaign can be played cooperatively with another player. Wasteland 3 is set in the freezing wastelands of a post-apocalyptic Colorado. The player will take control of the last surviving member of Team November, a Ranger Squad from Arizona. The survivor is subsequently contacted by a mysterious figure referred to as the "Patriarch,” who offers to help them return home on one condition: that the Ranger first deals with the Patriarch's heirs, who are fighting amongst themselves to succeed him and plunging the land into chaotic, unending warfare.

Wasteland 3, for me, was one of the anticipated games of 2020 due to 1. It has been an RPG / make your own characters adventure game and 2. It was created by Inxile, one of my favorite video-game developers out there, and OH BOY! They nailed almost everything in this one. Here is my review of " Wasteland 3."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros:

+ Story:

The story of Wasteland 3 goes like this. You play as two members of the Arizona Ranger, which you have been ambushed while arriving in Colorado. From here on out, you learn who ambushed you? Who runs each town? Who to help and much more. Every choice you make has an impact on the storyline. Some might have good results; in the end, some might have bad results, and other times some of the choices you make might have bad income both ways, so it depends on how you play it. The world of Wasteland 3 drastically changes with the choices you make. And for that reason, I loved the story of Wasteland 3 as there were many choices in my playthrough where I just had to pause the game, think for 10 minutes straight on what I want to choose, and then go ahead with it. InXile storytelling is A1 in this one with excellent writing.

+ Characters Creation:

The Characters Creation in Wasteland 3 is well design and thought throughout. You can make up to 6 characters with four been of your own choice with Skills to choose from for your character / Background / Starting Weapon / Attributes / Quirks and Look with different hats, helmets, hair, eyes and much more And the rest 2 being part of the storyline. This vast amount of character customization is a welcome thing to have in RPG games, and I was happy to take my time with it to make my characters as perfect as I wanted to.

+ Characters:

The characters you meet throughout the story of Wasteland 3 were very well voice-acted and well written. The first characters you meet in Wasteland 3 ( The Patriarch ) are very interesting in a way that you learn about him at the start one way, but as you play more and more, you learn of his cons and how ruthless he sometimes can be.

All the characters are enjoyable to learn about them, and complete fun quests for them: overall, the more hard work that " InXile Entertainment " has put to make every character in Wasteland 3 been voice-acted was much appreciated and made the playthrough for me much enjoyment.

+ Humor

One of the things that I wanted to make a separate point for is that the Humor is Wasteland 3 was perfect for me. I almost laughed at every joke the characters told. This type of great sense of humor made this game a lot more enjoyable than if it was too serious, and the humor also makes a HUGE difference in my final score as well.

GG inXile for nailing the humor in Wasteland 3 and P.S: Polly is the best... Just the best

+ Gameplay / Combat:

The Gameplay is Wasteland 3 is turn-based combat. When you are not in a fight, then you can freely explore the location and talk with anyone who you want to, BUT as soon as you enter combat, then this turns into turn-based. Each character has AP to use during the combat, which can be increased as you level up ( Attribute ). Each character has a weapon to fire, Special abilities than can be used and unlocked via Perks, throwables like a grenade, Molotov, robots OR if one of your characters is a healer based than he can have medkit in place of those and much much more.

The number of ways you can finish the fight is uncountable, and this makes the combat never feel stale. The combat also never feels overwhelming as it is well balanced out ( Even in Supreme Jerk Difficulty ). The battlefield can also be changed by the actions you do on it; for example, been destroying covers, so the enemies are exposed to your attacks. Overall I simply enjoyed the combat in Wasteland 3.

+ Menu / Interface Design*:

Even Tho I have one small complaint about the interface of Wasteland 3. It still is well designed and makes the game very welcoming to the newcomers to this franchise as well as very informative in every aspect of it. Everything from stats, skills, perks, and quirks is properly explained, and any improvement made by spending the related points is highlighted, preventing players from investing in stats and skills they do not want to develop. The Mission Log is also extremely simple to use as well, and so is the map, which allows players to set waypoints, making it much easier to reach highlighted points of interest and such.

*Again, one small improvement that can be fixed by a patch can make it even more user friendly to many people

Cons:

( Note: The following cons are mentioned here before the recent fix patch hit; most of these issues are resolved by now OR been worked on.)

- Bugs and LONG LOADING TIMES

( Note: Loading times have been much improved since the latest patch as well as many bugs that I had are already being fixed OR are worked on )

One of the things that I had a BIG issue with is how LONG the loading times are. As someone who saves a lot and loads a lot, it was a pain in the ass that you had to wait more than a minute for things to load. I feel like this game would have been finished at 50 hours mark than 70 if the loading times were quick.

Another thing to mention is that there are a lot of Bugs present in this game, which I talked with Inxile, and they have said that they are working on fixing them. Especially I did not play it but heard from many friends of mine that Co-op is just a mess as of now, so wait for that to be fixed before playing co-op.

- Menu / Interface Design*

*Again, one small improvement that can be fixed by a patch can make it even more user friendly to many people is having a good sorting system for the inventory. It is always a mess to find something you need and especially when you wanna sort by price to sell the highest priced weapons/armor. Not a huge complaint to have as this all can be fixed with one patch, but something to say to everyone. I hope the developers are reading this and do indeed put a better sorting system in the future.

- The difficulty is too forgiving:

The difficulty I played on ( Supreme Jerk ) is hard at the start, and you will need to do many quick-save and quick-loads during the beginning, BUT as someone who did all of the side-missions available and random encounters. The difficulty becomes too forgiving as I had an OP spider-rifle, as well as OP brawler, builds, and I have also heard that normal difficulty is SUPER forgiving, so just to heads up.

Not an issue of the game or anything, BUT had to mention it. 👍

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Final Verdict:

9/10

( Excellent )

( MUST TO PLAY )

InXile Entertainment has done something incredible with Wasteland 3. It is one of the best RPG that I have played in a while and has the best stuff that a Role-Playing game can do; an engaging story with great writing and characters, heavy customization, deep turn-based combat, and a living world, a game that will most likely be on my GOTY 2020 list and a must-to-play game from me. Can't wait to see what Inxile have in store for us in the next game they are making.

Wasteland 3 is available to buy at PlayStation Store ( PS4 ), Microsoft Store ( Xbox One ), On Gamepass, which is an incredible deal, Windows PC ( Steam ) as well as soon to be available on Linux and Macintosh operating systems for $59.99
